BritPulse offers growers a dedicated market for UK-grown beans, built around clear requirements, known demand and longer-term supply relationships.
Our aim is to move beyond short-term commodity purchasing. As demand for BritPulse feed ingredients grows, we are building forward and multi-year contracting arrangements that give growers greater confidence when making cropping decisions.
Pricing will reflect UK production costs, market conditions, crop quality and the information supplied with the crop. Where growers create additional verified value, our aim is to recognise that value within the commercial relationship.
Growing for BritPulse connects the farm directly with a developing British protein supply chain. Dependable grower supply gives BritPulse the confidence to commit to customers, while growing customer demand creates the longer-term market needed to support more beans in British rotations.

Beans need to earn their place in the rotation. Used well, they provide a productive break crop while bringing benefits to nutrient use, soils and following crops.
Reduced synthetic nitrogen requirement
As nitrogen-fixing crops, beans supply much of their own nitrogen and can leave plant-available nitrogen for following crops, improving nutrient use efficiency and reducing fertiliser demand.

Grow beans to an agreed standard
BritPulse works with growers to agree the crop specification and growing requirements. The focus is on good agronomy, crop quality and producing beans that meet the needs of a dependable commercial supply chain.
Record simple field-level information
During the season, growers record straightforward information on variety, inputs and key field operations. This provides traceability and a clear picture of how the crop has been produced without adding unnecessary complexity.
Deliver the crop against an agreed contract
Beans that meet the agreed quality and data requirements are delivered to BritPulse against the contracted terms. Quality, traceability and relevant production information can all contribute to the value of the crop.
What Makes BritPulse Beans Different
BritPulse beans are grown for a defined end use rather than bought only as an undifferentiated commodity. They are part of a specified British supply chain connecting the field, processing plant and feed customer.
Every crop supplied to BritPulse can be traced back to the farm and field where it was grown. This gives BritPulse greater control over supply and quality while giving customers confidence in the provenance of the protein they buy.
The information provided by growers also allows BritPulse to evidence how its beans have been produced. This supports quality assurance, traceability and environmental reporting where customers require it.
Over time, combining known demand, contracted supply and verified production information should support a stronger and better-valued market for British beans.
The BritPulse Growing Standard
BritPulse is developing a Growing Standard to provide a clear and practical framework for beans supplied into our protein supply chain.
The standard will focus on good agronomy, crop quality, traceability and the field-level information needed to build dependable supply. Relevant environmental information will also be captured where it provides measurable value to growers, BritPulse or downstream customers.
During 2026, BritPulse is working with pilot farms in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire to test what is practical on farm before expanding the grower group for future harvests. Grower feedback will directly shape how the standard develops.
The standard has to work commercially as well as technically. Our aim is to keep it proportionate, reward growers fairly and create the consistency and confidence needed to increase the use of British beans at scale.
